Lucasfilm is excited to announce that Emmy-nominated producer and actor Jon Favreau has signed on to executive produce and write a live-action Star Wars series for Disney’s new direct-to-consumer platform. Favreau is no stranger to the Star Wars galaxy having played roles in both the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series and in the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy said -

I couldn’t be more excited about Jon coming on board to produce and write for the new direct-to-consumer platform. Jon brings the perfect mix of producing and writing talent, combined with a fluency in the Star Wars universe. This series will allow Jon the chance to work with a diverse group of writers and directors and give Lucasfilm the opportunity to build a robust talent base.

Jon will be putting together a team of creatives in order to bring the series to screen, but I guess there is still room for him to direct the odd entry himself. Jon Favreau said -

If you told me at 11 years old that I would be getting to tell stories in the Star Wars universe, I wouldn’t have believed you. I can’t wait to embark upon this exciting adventure.

So to take stock of where we are with current Star Wars: We have Solo: A Star Wars Story hitting theatres in just over 70 days. JJ Abrams starting principal photography on Star Wars Episode IX in July, Rian Johnson overseeing a new trilogy of Star Wars films set away from the Skywalker saga, Benioff and Wiess, the producers of Game of Thrones will be producing a series of Star Wars films, Dave Filoni will most likely be executive producing the next Star Wars animated TV series for the streaming platform, Simon Kinberg is reportedly writing a future Star Wars film project and now Jon Favreau is writing and producing a live-action TV show.

Add to that the rumoured Obi-Wan project with Stephen Daldry attached and things are looking bright for the future of Star Wars.

I am really thrilled that Jon Favreau is attached to this Star Wars TV show. I loved what he did with the Iron Man movies and Jungle Book was groundbreaking stuff. How do you feel about Jon's involvement with Star Wars? How do you feel about a live-action Star Wars series? And would you care to predict what the show will focus one?
